UBCF’s NY Tempur-Pedic® Mattress Donation Event a Great Success

August 14, 2018

Serving 442 breast cancer patients, survivors and family members

United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) hosted a very successful Tempur-PedicⓇ Mattress Donation Event on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the International Warehouse Group (IWG) in Bethpage, NY. UBCF distributed 264 Tempur-PedicⓇ mattresses and thousands of other items valued at approximately $1.6 million, supporting 442 breast cancer patients, survivors and family members.

Sadly, nearly 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime. Men are affected too. According to American Cancer Society, about 2,550 men will be diagnosed this year. Breast Cancer is a difficult and long road with many sleepless nights due to body aches and muscle soreness. Providing patients and survivors with Temper-Pedic® mattresses and other helpful items helps to improve lives and may even speed-up recovery.

UBCF’s NY Tempur-PedicⓇ Mattress Donation Event started bright and early at 8:15 am. Event attendees were checked-in by Gift In Kind Program Manager, Ms. Molly Robinson and Director of Operations, Ms. Beth Reichart. Each event attendee received a “Pink Bag Box” and at least 1 Tempur-PedicⓇ mattress. The Pink Bag Box included Pink Bags filled with clothing from Eddie Bauer, J.Jill and Talbots. UBCF provided Pink Bags containing personal care and beauty items from Burt’s Bees, Estee Lauder and Eos, along with hair dryers, curlers and straighteners. Additionally, attendees received a George Foreman Rotisserie grill, a pair of Nike sneakers, Culligan water filters and helmets from Kali Protectives. Once an attendee received their Pink Bag Box, they received a Tempur-PedicⓇ mattress.

Event attendees left with warm smiles and grateful hearts. UBCF received countless messages from Breast Cancer Patients, Survivors and their families expressing their gratitude for the event. Aida shared, “Saturday was so well organized I was able to make the trip to pick up the Tempur-Pedic mattress and the other goodies and still get to work on time at 1pm. The beds are AMAZING We haven’t sleep this well in at least a decade. The clothes were an incredible surprise and I can’t wait to wear them and Burt’s Bees lotion totally love them. This morning before I go to work I’m trying out [the] George Foreman Rotisserie. What an incredible gift. Thank you so much for all you did to make this happy and special – thanks to the companies who made this happen! Now I really will be able to say I can’t wait to get home to sleep in my own bed! It is really greatly appreciated. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.”

Since 2012, UBCF has joined forces with Good360 to bring Tempur-PedicⓇ mattresses to women, men and children directly impacted by Breast Cancer in various locations around the USA. UBCF received a generous donation of helmets from Kali Protectives. Thanks to Kali Protectives, event attendees can safely engage in cycling – a fun and family friendly activity to improve health and wellness. UBCF thanks International Warehouse Group owners Jay Joel, Jeff Heydt and John LaForte for generously donating their space, employees and time for the third year running. UBCF had 17 volunteers came out to support breast cancer patients and survivors during the day-long event including volunteers from the Melville Fire Department and Gold Coast Home Comfort.

UBCF will host four more Tempur-Pedic® Mattress Donation Events this year – locations include Baltimore, MD, Norton, VA, Diamond Bar, CA and Miami, Florida (exact dates TBD).
