On August 13th, 2015, The United Breast Cancer Foundation will host an Art Show exhibition, “The Faces of Breast Cancer”. UBCF hopes to promote body positivity for those who have experienced physical and emotional trauma due to breast cancer. According to the Ellipses Project, body positivity is a radical redefinition and reclamation of the body, which states that all bodies are worthy and beautiful. The idea of body positivity disputes claims that there is one “perfect” body type.
UBCF, in conjunction with French photographer, Pascal Latil, and partners Isabelle Lake and Lilas Magnolias, will sponsor an exhibition featuring portraits of women around the globe facing similar circumstances all working towards increasing breast cancer awareness and body positivity; recognizing that all bodies are worthy and beautiful. The women involved are all survivors of, or currently affected by, breast cancer.
The event will take place at LaMantia Gallery in Northport, NY from 6pm-9pm. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be provided, as well as an acoustic guitar performance by musician Gui Williams. Tickets to the event are available for $25.00 and can be purchased online, or by phone at 877-UBC-4CURE. Art work and Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event.
