The Power of Integrative Care

Julia is an adventurer and has lived and traveled across the globe while exploring various cultures. While she’s from the midwest, she feels that she can make anywhere home!

Julia has always been healthy and strives to take care of herself. This made her breast cancer diagnosis all the more surprising, especially because it was her first routine mammogram. Within hours she was sent for a biopsy and then within 48 hours she received a breast cancer diagnosis. She had no idea about the cancer and would have remained in the dark without this mammogram.

Luckily Julia’s breast cancer was at an early stage. This has made a huge difference in her journey and has inspired her to raise awareness for the importance of early detection. Julia found United Breast Cancer Foundation because of her interest in integrative care while managing her breast cancer. Integrative care consists of a culmination of care types including holistic treatment and support services. This has taught her not only how to handle her breast cancer but also improve her everyday quality of life. The skills that she has learned to help with her healing has transcended her experience. “I’ve been learning about visual imagery through integrative care. When the pain comes I go to my special place… I wouldn’t have learned that otherwise. I’m so grateful because it’s been helping me with my quality of life in general.”

Insurance didn’t cover integrative care for her so finding UBCF a few months ago was a huge relief. UBCF provided her with a Holistic Gare grant which she has put towards personalized integrative care treatments. She found other organizations’ application process overwhelming and was grateful that UBCF was so easy and accessible for her. She also felt that UBCF was extremely responsive, made her feel heard, and gave her help that she needed. This help has made a huge difference in her diagnosis. She explained how deeply thankful she is for UBCF.

UBCF thanks donors for the impact they have on those affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. For more information on how to donate or receive aid from UBCF, please visit UBCF.org. To learn about our breast screening program click here. For information on our holistic care program click here.
